3 Ways to INSTANTLY improve and get better at Soccer

How do you become better at soccer? It’s a question that’s been asked by soccer players and coaches for decades. Some say it’s all about technique. Some say it’s about conditioning. Others say it’s about technique and conditioning. This article will outline three methods to help you become a better soccer player.

Number 1, and the most important… For you to ever see your full potential as a soccer player, you HAVE to have a plan… an INDIVIDUAL plan. If you are at a professional soccer club, this is usually a given and done for you, but thats just the 0.1%

So what do you do?

You have a few options. You can go to a soccer professional (like myself) and they will give you a full technical breakdown, watch your film, come to your games, talk to you about your goals etc. From there, IF (and thats a big ‘if’) they are a very good trainer, they will be able to supply you with a FULL IDP (IDP is short for Individual Development Plan). Personally I only trust a few trainers in the United States to give a world class IDP.

The next option, and by far the easiest, is to your OWN IDP. But how? Well thats where I have made it easy for you. I recently carved a week out to create a full IDP, and three videos to accompany it, to show players EXACTLY how to fill out the BMS IDP. Best of all, it’s FREE!

Now… Don’t mistake the fact that it’s free for ‘easy’. You still have to put the effort in and follow the instructions, but at the end of it you will have a full individual development plan, which is unique to you, which is the ONLY way to get on the path to completely reach your potential!

The second way to improve instantly is pretty obvious. It’s to GET OUTSIDE AND PRACTICE!

Now that you have your IDP, this is easy. All you have to do is come up with the drills. You can do this by spending hours on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or Facebook endlessly searching for individual soccer training drills, writing them down and tweaking them for your sessions. BUT… Be careful who you listen to on those channels! They are full of self-proclaimed ‘experts’ and ‘gurus’ who are just incredibly good on video, but they don’t actually train ANYBODY! I know… How can you call yourself an expert at something if all you do is put drills together and you have never actually developed any player from rec to club, let alone rec to pro like we have at Beast Mode Soccer.

Your other option is training programs and apps. Again, you have to be careful here. There’s an app on the App Store and Google which is very popular, but the person who created it does not train ANYBODY… so how on earth do they know what it working RIGHT NOW? Answer is… They don’t.

The safest bet here is to download the Beast Mode Soccer+ App. Over 70 ‘done for you’ sessions that are all geared toward making you the best player that you can be, AND it goes hand in hand with the free Individual Development Plan. Also… It’s less than $20 a month, which gets you full access, and of course I am putting brand new content on there every single month, because what it working NOW for my players like Alex Morgan, Mallory Pugh and Rachel Daly, needs to be seen by YOU so that you can benefit as well!

Number 3 is… WATCH MORE SOCCER!

Don’t just watch though, I want you to analyze each game!

Here’s how:

i. Get Invested. A huge problem in North America is that youth players do not watch enough soccer. To combat this, I have my players pick a team to support in all the big soccer leagues worldwide. When you have a team to support, you are more invested in watching them.

ii. Get Organized. Now you have the teams that you will follow, GET ORGANIZED. Download their schedule, put it into your phone and find out what channel is broadcasting their games. Now you have this info, you are ready to not just watch soccer, but analyze.

iii. Analyze. I like my players to go old school with this. What I mean by that is that they leave their phones in another room, grab a piece of paper and a pen, and the start analyzing the game. Why? Because the fact is, our phones are a MASSIVE distraction! I want you to focus but what exactly are you looking for? Thats next…

iv. Formations and Shape. Write down what formations both teams are playing and what shape they are both. How does this affect the game? What do you think they could change to impact the game more

v. Individual Players. Thoroughly analyze the player on both teams that plays your position. Write down every single action you see them do. Is their movement good? Ball control? First touch? Vision? Was their passing confident? How about their body language?

vi. Start Predicting. Now you have been watching your two players for the first half, you should have started to get a feel for how they play. In the second half, each time they get the ball I want you to pause the TV and see if you can predict what action that player will take next. The more you do this, the more you will be able to start to ‘read’ the game.

vii. Study and Learn. At the end of the game I want you to write down the score, how the each teams tactics affected the results AND what you would have done to improve the tactics. Also… and this is very important… I want you to write down what the two players you studied did well, what they can improve on and what you can take from their game and put it into yours. Remember you are no longer just watching soccer, you are studying and learning!

So here are the ways to improve (almost) immediately.

1. The Beast Mode Soccer Individual Development Plan

2. Get Outside and Practice

3. Watch More Soccer

Yes, the title says immediately, but let’s be real, anybody that thinks you can improve straight away, is looking for shortcuts, and nothing worth achieving in life has shortcuts!
